The tour featured stars like Mark Messier, Paul Coffey, and Jari Kurri, showcasing high-level hockey in countries such as Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Germany. Gretzky, serving as both player and ambassador, used the tour to promote the sport globally while keeping players active during the work stoppage. The event reinforced his role as hockey's greatest icon and helped expand the game's international presence. The number 94 on the jersey was dedicated to H. MERZ, who was the teams sports physiotherapist.
MERZ was also with Wayne Gretzky and the Edmonton Oilers for 4 of the 5 Stanley Cup wins. He departed the Edmonton Oilers for LA Kings with Wayne Gretzky. MERZ went on to win two more Stanley Cup rings as the sports physiotherapist for the New Jersey Devils. He also won the 1996 World Cup and an Olympic Gold as the team physiotherapist.
